Avatar storage? Anyone intrested?

I am working on a new component, picture gallery, and thought an avatar storage site would be a cool test for it. Would anyone be interested in using it?

I thought it would be cool to have a little gallery where people could look at old avatars (the "avatar tease" sparked the idea for me, I hope you don't mind ) and store their own. It would also make switching between avatars easy. The component will also store notes about each pic (avatar).

I was thinking of adding this to a weblog for the test.

Well what do you think? Opinions?

It stores one and it is only for use here.

Personally I thought it would be fun to have a central location to store avatars for use on any site. If you want to go back to an old avatar you have it handy. Or to just look at other peoples avatars, if they allow. In a way it would be like a little time capsule of *your* avatars.

I need to build a picture gallery component for other projects but I work better if I have a goal (a project). So I thought this would be a fun way to test the gallery and give a little back to the MU.

This is the feature list for the first version. Post if you have any comments, otherwise I’ll drop a note when it is done incase anyone wants to use it.

User features:

• --Upload avatars
  --Notes per avatar
  --Public /semi private / private galleries
  --Buddy list – for semi private galleries (other members or email address with a password)
  --Access to avatars from the internet (this is the point of the component)
  --Choice of skins for gallery
  --User defined skins - if admin allows
  --Public / private (private – only creators gallery is allowed to use skin)
  --WYSIWYG editor for notes
  --Spelling checker for notes (using external spell check component)

Admin Features

• --Max number of avatars per account type
  --Max size per account type
  --File types allowed per account type
  --Max number of characters per avatar per account type for avatar notes
  --Set default skin
  --Upload gallery skin based on account type
  ----Auto flag for review on upload
  ----Allow / deny gallery skin
  ----Edit public private on skin
  --Add gallery skins
  --Member administration
  ----Standard account admin features such edit profile, lock or block account and password reset
  ----Account types – unlimited levels
