IO2 Technology's ground breaking medium format 27-inch heliodisplay, developed by Mr. Chad Dyner, projects full color streaming video into mid-air. The image or video is fully interactive allowing a hand or finger to select, navigate and manipulate the image or video as a virtual touchscreen.

They already sell prototypes (4/month, $22000, limited warranty), so the technology works.

Actually, I think it's not 3d (not holographic means almost that I think...)

Something like projector above the briefing table in the Nikita series (first thing that comes to mind...), I think.

Still, it would be nice to have one

I guess the contrast is pretty low (even though they claim 300:1), i have to see it in real life. Looks cool though.

There were games in arcades that use to have a floating screen effects but they were somewhat enclosed and used a mirror trick.

Reminds me of the hienkin tour in Amsterdam. They have a free floating bottle of beer sitting in one of the rooms. Everyone has at least one go at picking it up

The features they have and working on are strange:

                            - Invisible from one side ? How did this happen ?
                            - "Same image front and back" and "different image front and back" ? (this could be possible if it is invisible from one side)
                            - Variable opacity seems nice...
                            - 2D and simulated 3D: what would they mean by the latter ?
