  • Real Parhelia performance?

    Hi folks!

I recently got my own P and I'm the new happy-Parhelia user. I run 3dmark to see wether I could improve something and to see wether the P is cpu limited.

Interestingly, first I got about 6600 3dmarks and after some improvements (installed vias hyperion, agp aperture size to 256 mb, switched my soundcard so the P gets its own irq) I got about 6700 points.

Strange that guys like gohan reach about 7800 points with an equal system (pIII-S @ 1.5 GHz, 512 MB Sdram, Parhelia not overclocked), whereas Sasq with his Athlon-XP 2400+/512mb ddr 333 gets 7200 points.

If I compare my results with Sasq's, my much older system scores only 7% less than his, quite well I think.

But how is it possible to reach +15% more performance? Not that I would care too much about points or numbers, but if I can get 15% more speed, I take them...

@Gohan: I hope you're not angry about me taking your numbers, but I couldn't reach you per pn!

@Sasq: saru mo ki kara ochiru! Hehe. Sasq smashed to the ground...

    Have a nice day, Hannes

    PS: my rig:

    pIII-S 1.4 GHz
    1024GB sdr ram
    WinXP
    Parhelia 128R

PPS: the taskmanager shows that the cpu isn't fully used when 3dmark runs, so the cpu can be exclused, I think.

I scored 6448 3DMarks with the first rig in my sig (CeleronT 1.1A@1.47, Parhelia bulk clocked at bulk).

Didn't shuffle the PCI cards and disable services though.

And my Micron PC133 would not be stable at CAS2 on this or the BE6 II RAID board, so I'm running CAS3.

I score about 5836 3dMarks, but in my opinion that means absolutly nothing, like any theoratical bech (I beat my brothers system with a Gf4-4200 and 2,4 Ghz in Codecreatures ).
Just check the futuremark website (comparison) and you will find much systems which should be as fast as yours but which are sometimes much slower or much faster than yours...

Sure, they're just numbers, but in some way this benchmark has to be comparable - at least that's what it should be good for.

        I'm wondering why there's a difference of ~1000 points.

My 3.06ghz machine scores the same as a friend's 2.4ghz machine. I think the parhelia tops out at about 8300 or so. That's what we got anyhow on ours.

Well, unless you voltmod and OC it to 272MHz.

Since my machine isn't cpu limited (the task manager shows about 70% cpu usage during 3dmark), I don't understand why I get a score about 1000 pts lower.

If it's not the cpu, not the ram, what makes it then?

AFAIK some P owners here get around 7500 pts. - do you have any idea?

I seem to recall that Scratchi broke something on the card when he was modding it, but no further info...
