  • Any good DVD player software?

So, has any good DVD software come out lately? I'm still using WinDVD 3. It doesn't play everything quite right though. But it seems like most of the new software is buggy and unsupported. Any suggestions?
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

I'm currently using WinDVD5 with no complaints.

    PowerDVD5 sucks donkey balls.

Actually, same here. (Except in FreeBSD where I usually use Ogle or Xine)

Sonic Cineplayer 1.51 is really nice as well, clean interface and useful features.

I use Powerdvd 5 without any problems. It seems hit and miss whether it works properly or not judging by the comments on forums.

WinDVD 5 has an incredible renderer. It's the best software DVD player I've used.

IMHO WinDVD always had better picture quality than PowerDVD, although PDVD had all those nifty sound options WinDVD lacked...

Tried WinDVD 4 that came with a Toshiba DVD Burner. Hated it. PowerDVD 5 and PowerDVD 4 before it work fine for me.

I concur with Jammrock's assessment, and additionally I note that the missing sound options in WinDVD are in no way an impediment - I don't do surround-sound on my PC, opting instead to use my rear channel speakers to do "sound expansion" by docking them to the top of my front channel speakers.

Let's face it - except for the rare game where I'd LIKE to hear the noises behind me (and I can rearrange for that express purpose), I never need rears on the PC. Maybe when I get a house I'll actually rig up 7.1 on the computer, but certainly not before then.

So for now, WinDVD is "better" in my mind. WinDVD5 starts faster than PowerDVD4/5, doesn't have video corruption like PDVD5, uses WAY less overhead, has better video quality, and loads videos faster.

                        We have a winner!

But if you're happy with WinDVD3, I see little reason to update unless it won't play something or runs poorly on your machine.

WinDVD 5 does everything I need it to do and more, and it does it efficently too. I was running some piece that really hurt the preformance of the PC as a whole, WinDVD 5 doesn't do this, and thus is a winner in my eyes.

What's the opinion on using WMP or MPClassic?

I had PowerDVD5 handy, so I tried it. No problems so far, but I haven't used it much.
