  • P650 & tv-out

    Hi all

I'm concidering purchasing the P650 and I have a couple of questions. First of all, I live in Denmark and there aren't many places where you can buy Matrox cards. I found this one store over the Internet that had the BULK version of a P650 and I wasn't sure if the card came with a tv-out cable like the G550 does. So i called the store and asked about this and they told me that the cable was not supplied and they did not sell it seperately. Furthermore the guy that I talked to told me that he believed that the version of the P650 they were selling did not feature tv-out at all! Apparently there are two different versions of the P650 (that's what he said) -- one has tv-out, the other one does not. This can't be true, can it? Also where can one get a tv-out cable for the P650? I can't seem to find it on shop.matrox.com..

    Hope you can help me.

Actually it is a very good question. Everywhere, P650 is sold, there is a note, that TV cable is sold separately. But the cable is not sold anywhere! Matrox tech FAQ doesn't provide Pin-out for the cable either. Kind'a sad...
AFAIK, all P650 support TV-out. But does it support Video, S-Video and RGB like older cards or just some of the formats is still unknown to me.

All P650s are bulk. They don't offer a retail package, even on shopmatrox.com :
NOTE: Does not include the retail box or installation manual.
      TV-Out cable sold separately.
2 DVI to HD15 adapters included.
P650 uses the same TV-out cable as G450/G550 (not G400).

I wonder if a SCART-RGB cable for the G450/G550 will also work on the P650. Is there any reference to 'scart-rgb' in the tv-output properties of the P650 and P750 series?

G450 has a HD15 out, P650 DVI. Does it mean, that in case of P650, you have to apply first DVI->HD15 cable and then HD15->Video breakout of G450 and then Video cable to connect to TV?

Has anybody tried it in _real life_?
I'm also curious about RGB out...

I can't tell you about the P650, but the cable on the P750 is actually an HD15 cable. You need to use the DVI->HD15 converter (included in the box) then connect the HD15->TV cable.

My guess: it works the same way on the P650. The problem is I can't guarantee for sure it will work with any DVI->HD15 converter, but I don't see why not either...

Per the Matrox support forums, no SCART will not work...

I talked a guy I work with into buying one. He is mostly just doing digital imaging, so I figured it would suit his needs perfectly. It only came with two DVI -> HD15 connectors and the software CD.

yes but hasn't anyone tried tv-out on this card? i find it odd that the tv-out cable isn't supplied! Also if it's the same cable as the one that comes with the G550, then it's really expensive, and that sucks!!

I'm probably a little slow, but this is what i got from the matrox forums--so I guess the case is closed (as far as my question is concerned)

The P650 cards do support 1 monitor and 1 TV with the optional cable.

The TV out cable can be found here.

It is the /15953-02 which is the same for the Millennium G450, Millennium G550, Matrox Parhelia™ and Millennium P650.
