I still love the opening scene in Desperado, where he whacks the dude with his guitar (Seeing the guy going down spitting teeth and blood)...of course, it should have snapped off the neck of the guitar right then and there unless it were carbon or reinforced Kevlar...

Depends on the construction. If it's neck-through then it's not a problem to hit someone with it IF you're careful about the point of impact.

      Oh, who am I kidding?

Anyway, is Desperado officially El Mariachi 2? I thought it was a remake, not a sequel... (Says Gurm who hasn't watched El Mariachi yet, it's on my list.)

No....Desparado makes clear references to El Mariachi including a flashback or two. There are similarities though not enough to call it a "remake".

Desperado was a remake and sequel all in one. It was designed to have the story everyone enjoyes in El Mariachi with the slam bam thank you ma'm attitude of a Hollywood action movie.

And is one of the few Tarantino movies that I can stomach. Next time I hear someone call him a genius...

Maybe because it's not a Tarantino movie?

He's in it though.. I swear, every time I see his ugly mug in some movie, I have the urge to punch him. It would be interesting to see that overextended jaw of his hanging all crooked and broken.

I still giggle over the joke he told in Desparado though....just because it's so sick

I think the thing that scares me the most about Robert Rodreguez are his choice of movies. El Mariachi, Desperado, From Dusk Til Dawn (Directed, Tarantino only co-wrote and acted in it) ... Spy Kids. All 3 of them. Wrote, edited, directed.

Talk about being a flexible director.

Speaking of Tarantino, his new flick "Kill Bill" is being cut into two parts. Apparenlty he refused to edit it down to under 2 hours (run-time is ~3 hours) so Miramax let him cut it into two parts, geniusly named, Kill Bill Volume 1 & 2.

                      Trailer time!

                      Kill Bill = http://www.apple.com/trailers/miramax/kill_bill/

Even if you don't like Tarantino, he is personally responsible for bringing some great foriegn films to the US spotlight. For that I must give him some credit.

Desperado was so full of unrealistic exageration, as most movies today are, but it was done so bad it made the movie awesome. Just a great, senseless killing movie. Not sure how many times I saw it. Must get it on DVD...

Hope Johnny Depp gets his head blown off by the end of the openning credits though.

Cool. Mickey Rourke. Haven't seen him in a while.

On a side note, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is being redone too.
