  • Hyperthreading

I've finally assembled my new box (see System 1 in sig), and will install Slackware 9 shortly on it beside WinXP.
In order to have Hyperthreading, will I have to use a SMP kernel?

Yes, and be sure to upgrade to kernel 2.4.21 as soon as you've finished installing Slackware.

Any specific reason or just useful?

The 2.4.21 has improved support for HT.

Quick question.... since you have to have an SMP kernel to use HT, and the Parhelia's linux driver currently doesn't like SMP too much, (OpenGL problems) Does that mean that with HT you'll have OpenGL problems? (I haven't bothered to run an smp kernel on my system yet, because of this, and besides, it's not like 3.06ghz is not enough power )

I'm currently installing Win2k, and will install Slackware9 after I get the 2k up and running.
I'll post here as soon as I've tested out the driver in SMT.

I compiled my 2.4.21 kernel yesterday evening, with SMP support.
Installed the pro4 drivers and kicked up X through startx.
No instabilities found yet. Will try glxgears and some screensavers when I get home.
