Looks like Matroxusers will be dropping to number 23 soon. No?

GNEP
30th July 2003, 15:11
We briefly dropped to 23 then came back to 22. Were at 20 for a while :(

J1NG
30th July 2003, 16:37
Yeah, we fought ourselves out of the 23 position of late. Looks like this is where we will be staying for a while until we get more power crunchers. :)

And eh, bsdgeek, if you want 7th place, you better try harder. As of this post, I'm nearly 300000 ahead of you. I'm only worried about Gnep at the speed he's going at. ;)

J1NG

GNEP
30th July 2003, 17:07
Should overtake BSD by next week sometime if all goes to plan :)

(Friendly competition has to be good for our overall placing...)

J1NG
30th July 2003, 17:24
You may overtake bsdgeek Gnep, but you will never overtake me, Never! :D  jk

J1NG

GNEP
30th July 2003, 17:32
Actually, I think you may be right there J1NG :)

bsdgeek
30th July 2003, 17:34
Meh, I can't compete anymore. My friend (who had half of my production) is out of town for a week or so, and his machines are all down until his return. I might get a couple more of my boxes online, hopefully.

GNEP
30th July 2003, 17:38
So that's how I've managed to catch up... :)

GNEP
1st August 2003, 02:48
Looks like I've overtaken you already bsd :p

J1NG
1st August 2003, 05:14
Damn, only 300000 ahead and you're producing way more than I am a day. I wonder how long before I loose my 7th place? :D

J1NG

GNEP
1st August 2003, 05:34
I don't make it that I am producing that much more than you J1NG - so don't worry too much :) Besides, I am moving house soon which may disrupt things just a little...

GNEP
1st August 2003, 05:35
Besides, you're catching Marshmallowman faster than I'm catching you :)

GNEP
1st August 2003, 06:48
Here's something I've been doing through sheer boredom at work recently... :) thought I'd share.

(It's a zipped Excel file)

J1NG
1st August 2003, 09:39
Eh, I'm not that much better off actually. Got some renovation that'll last a couple of days ahead. So I'm making the most of it now. :)

Well, it's now over until then :)

J1NG

I'll be happy to. Assuming I can catch marshmallowman fast enough and stay ahead of Gnep! :) Damn you marshamallowman, why did you restart production so early? :p

Well, at least I've got the consolation prize of lowest RMS of the group at the moment. :)

I just looked at the DF stats today, and it states on their page:
Total work done so far: 994,766,660
Goal amount of work: 1,000,000,000

What happens when the goal is reached?
Another phase?

J1NG

RC Agent:

Have no idea. Two months ago it looked like it would take much longer to get to that 1000000000 mark. Looks like it'll be there in a few hours now. Anyone around during the last phase can tell us what'll happen?

-We will be releasing a new version of the software AND a new protein on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at 11:00 AM EST. This software update should fix a large portion of the existing bugs.

I'm not making this easy? I'm down to my AMD Duallie (2200+) only now, and I'm not making it easy? :D :)

Anyway, good luck with gaining Marshmallowmans place once you've got mine. :)

Well, as I said before, it doesn't look like anyone of you is gonna be getting anything better in the lowest RMS score. So I don't mind being overtaken. :)

Hey Breezer a belated congrats!!!
Great for the team

But on a personal note,...
where is my stick:p

breezer
12th August 2003, 23:54
Thanks Mark,
my production has gone up lately I think due to an upgrade to the xp os and having changing the av from inoculan to sophos, using inoculan slowed the machines by about 30% in our tests of av products.
Now where are those new 2.4mhz dells........

I got hosed on the autoupdate. I had 173 generations buffered, due to the server being down and only got 24,525 points, after 2 failed autoupdates.:(

On a brighter note, I've got sytems going into production, within the next 10 days, that should quadruple my production :D

This new client seems to have everyone scoring much more quickly as well... but this will be the same for all teams...

I was referring to two of my folding machines. We've got the strips now. I just need to plug in and update when I get the chance as I am busy now.

I just fixed the client on our server. It was erroring out and turning itself off. :D

I don't think it's a big deal, someone just uploaded a bunch of stored gens, we still outclass AMDMB in "general" units/hour.

It's really too bad I got screwed on the 680 upload. They were all from the current protein and I got less than 400,000 pts for them. A complete set of 250 Gen's is worth 660,875. I have no idea what happened to the other million+ points, since, I got no errors in the log.:(

Lost 82 generations due to missing previous generation error when uploading to server, something that already turned me away twice from DF in the past.
Hope I get to complete a set in this phase.

J1NG
12th September 2003, 19:12
Yeah, I lost a previous generation. And there was over 600 generations not uploaded. This was the reason I stopped too. Unsure on getting back at the mo. Renovation till next Friday and the electricity bill is not enticing. ;)

Say, how much time on the average you guys take to complete a set ?
I'm running the command line version with the 3.1 GUI and it's at 65% and roughly 17 hours have passed. Is that a good time for my rig ?

SitFlyer
13th September 2003, 05:23
I, for myself, have no idea. I don't leave the GUI running. Since I have all my clients set as a service, I normally just open task manager, to make sure that they are still running.

I have run the benchmark though on all of them. My 1.4 T'bird is the slowest at 78 seconds & 48.something seconds is what I get on my 2500+ Barton:):bunny:

I suppose, just to get you a reference, I'll leave dfGUI running on my primary (the slowest one) for a few days.:)

I'm just guessing my average for a complete set will be around 20-22 hours;)

One more question, what client priority should I put ?
Or should I leave it alone at 20 ?

High_Jumbllama
13th September 2003, 16:07
It's best like it is. It has a very low priority which even though when nothing else is running and it is taking up 99% CPU it will get out of the way when your run someting else. I've had no trouble at this level with any machine home, work, or server.

Admiral
13th September 2003, 16:19
I get 50-55% usage, guess HT's good for something afterall.
One more generation and I've done my first set, though with 29 hours I'm not quite happy.

edit: server seems to be down, at least I hope it's only that:

ERROR: [010.003] {taskapi.c, line 1218} [ReadServerResponse] Timeout waiting for response, got 0 chars.
ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 4654} Error during upload: NO RESPONSE FROM SERVER - WILL TRY AGAIN LATER

I am thinking about buying/buidling a machine that is either an opteron or hyper-threading P4 for gaming. Which to choose though. Either would be a good addition to the fold. Perhaps first the P4 then the Opteron once the early adopters get to adequately criticize it. Hmmmmmmmmm.

If you can get a board that does not have 939/940 pin compatabilty thing I would go the opteron, but I think it may take some months before you will really be sure the current boards won't have issues with new CPU's.

Gonna take the server to the bosses house and the backup hard drive to my house if I can make it in time.

Good luck getting through the storm.

Installed DF as a service, prority 0, set to use extra ram and went on playing Aquanox 2 for a few hours.
No noticeable slowdown in either game or DF.

All but my home machine are up and running. I reformatted my home machine last night so it could boot off the promise controller. Apparently it did not like my 20GB ultra66 drive but it likes my 40GB Ultra100.

Now all are running most at least for this weekend are running 24/7 that may make up my drop.

It would beat the P75 I had running SETI for a while. :D

Edit:
Did some estimation calculations with my farm due to everything being on. At a little over 30,000 points per hour taking the ram doubling into account, machines fold the current protein at roughly 480 points/ghz-hour.

So a hyperthreading 2.4ghz machine with extra ram on would do:
2.4 * 1.5(Hyper Threading) * 2(Extra Ram) would do ~ 3445 points per hour or ~82679 points per day or ~578756 points per week.

My current fastest cruncher, an Athlon XP at ~2.2Ghz, is averaging ~5.5 min / generation. One complete set is 132083 points.
1 day = 1440 minutes. 1440 / 5.5 = 261 generations / day. So, this one, my fastest, can do (261/250)*7*132083 = 965262 points per week:D

I should probably also clarify that all but one of these machines is a Celeron which will fold slower due to the smaller amount of cache.

No, I'm not done yet. Hopefully Friday will be the completion date. Then I'll see whether something for an opteron setup is available. If not. Then I'll wait till I get one. :) Which means there'll be only 1 machine working, and only when it;s on. 6 hours.

You can download the client here (http://www.distributedfolding.org/Download.html), preferably the text client if you plan to be active and install it as a service or run it as it is.
You were supposed to be able to download the dfGUI here (http://gilchrist.ca/jeff/dfGUI/) (can't reach the site) and be able to configure your text client and check on progress easyer through it.

Look through the readme files and if there's something you're missing, come back and ask ;)

edit: Ah yes, to join the team go to the High-Flyer Login (http://www.distributedfolding.org/login.html) page, log in and choose Matroxusers under Current Team, save changes.
