  • fastest computer in the world gets slow OS

    hahaha... I can't believe it!!!

It does offer 64bit support.... tweak, tweak!

Steve must really think people are morons.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I have little doubt that win64xp will be mostly 32 bit, as well. After all, Win 95 had very few 32 bit parts.

This rush to 64 bit is stupid, IMHO, whether it be MAC or WIN, for workstations (I'm not saying anything about servers)

      I disagree.

We are rapidly moving to a point where HD will be a format used even by amatures. HDV is a sign of this, and I would expect this format (and perhaps others) to move down the food chain in rapid order.

Then there is the strong move in editing apps to convolve all imported audio files to 32 bit for increased accuracy in audio calculations. This plus a move to doing 5.1 mixing in the editing app ups the load even further. Premiere Pro will be doing these and others will follow in short order IMO.

Combined these result in a need for much higher bandwidth than currently exists, especially if software realtime is added to the mix and you just know this will be the case. Add any other advanced features, which will of course also have to be done in software realtime, and things could really get nuts.

You could handle these needs by using multiple processors, but using fatter pipes and an OS to match is in the end the better solution.

Trust me on this; I've been testing Premiere Pro since May and the fact that it would benefit from 64 bit is blatantly obvious.

I didn't say that. I said it would benefit from 64 bit; meaning if the CPU, OS and Adobe all converged. IMO if they built it Adobe would come, but then that's just my opinion
