  • Error Message on Bootup?

I hopped onto my kid's computer recently and upon power up, the system paused with the message "Unworkable or Changed CMOS". Pressing F1 removes the pause and the system continues to boot up normally and everything works fine.

I asked my kid about it and he says it does that all the time, and has been for a while. Any ideas on what to check? I snooped around the CMOS settings and didn't notice anything unusual except that the CPU fan speed was at 0 rpm -- but I pulled the cover and seems to be running fine.

System is an AMD Athlon 1700+ on an ABIT KG7 mobo.

Your best bet is to clear the CMOS by using the jumper and then go back and set it to the correct settings.

If you've got a multi meter check the CMOS battery is Ok.
When you own your own business you only have to work half a day. You can do anything you want with the other twelve hours.
