  • Favourite metaphors?

I've seen (and used) one or two here recently. What are your favourites?

Zokes had "I'd be so on that like a fat kid on a smartie" (sorry about the pain Zokes, and Ken).

Mine was "locked down tighter than a camel's arse in a sandstorm"

    Over to you...

Here's some that I probably say to often:

"Rougher than a bear's arse" - to describe how you feel after a night on the town.

"Fuller than a fishmonger's cat" - to descibe how you feel after a blowout of a meal. However this is usually said in the slightly adjusted form: "Fuller than a fishmonger's wife's pussy"

Hate to quote a rapper, but how 'bout the line from that song by that guy who's been shot several times...

"Girl, I love you like a fat kid loves cake"
Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. Bastard coated bastards with bastard filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive, bubble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine. -- Dr. Perry Cox

Do we care as long as they are amusing?

A SIMILE is a figure of speech where X is compared to Y , using the words AS or LIKE .
              For example:

"My love's LIKE a red, red rose."
"He was AS cold AS ice."

While A METAPHOR is a figure of speech where X is compared to Y, and where X is said TO BE Y. A METAPHOR says that X IS Y.

              For example:

"It IS raining cats and dogs."

              "Juliet IS the sun."

              "My bedroom IS a tip."

"Her eyes ARE homes of silent prayer."

Either way, lets just have some fun

My favorite metaphor was hardwired into every episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer during the that show's first three seasons: highschool is hell.

In retrospect, my highschool experience was probably more positive than most. I went to the best public school in New York City. I had a lot of friends. I wasn't bullied. There was a lot to do. Senior year, I had a girlfriend who was both attractive and funny. AND IT STILL SUCKED BEYOND ALL REASON.

Highschool is hell. It isn't particularly profound or poetic, but if there is a hell, I'm going back to highschool after my last breath.
