    my question is why can they not tell if it is an octopus or a whale??.. you would think the professionals would be able to tell pretty easily

        Octopi of this type are deep sea creatures and when they are brought to the surface their bodies hemorage greatly due to the lack of pressure neccessary to sustain their life and form.

          I'd really like to see some of the data the Navy has on some of these things. A lot of these things make noise, and the since the Navy's subs are "all ears", I wonder just what they have heard, seen or experienced during their "oceanographic research" missions.
