  • SVCD Menus

    Does anybody know what size bmp's I should use for SVCD menus in PAL land.

    Can they be 704 x 576 (same as stills) or do I have to make them 480 x 576.

    Thanks.

    They should be 480*576 for menus.

    What software are you using for menu creation?

      Let's clarify that a bit:

      PAL = 480x576

      NTSC = 480x480

      This forum gets around so we have to take that into account

        I'm succesfully using 704x576 with I-Author. I prefer that resolution because 480x576 is sometimes not resized to full width on Pioneer DV525. I haven't found any rule why or when it happend.
        So again: You can use 704x576 (PAL) menu.

          I was under the impression that stills could be added in exactly the same way as everything else, i.e. just create a new play item. Does the software distinguish between bmp's added for menu's and bitmaps added to view as stills. Surely these are the same thing in which case I would have thought it was possible to use either resolution (704 x 576 or 480 x 576).

          On the other hand, aren't bmp's just converted to MPEG (mps) files the same as the video files?

          Oh dear, I'm confusing myself !!
