  • Neverwinter Nights Movie fiasco....

Ok, I don't get it..... Most of the people using linux I would think would be somewhat intelligent...

Reading all the comments on the various linux game sites, it would seem that EVERYONE is just totally slamming Bioware for using the Bink Video Codec, which Linux doesn't have a native player for. They all say that the Win32 bink player can be downloaded for free, and actually works through Wine, but it's terribly slow. Now my question is, why don't the linux users, rather than getting pissy with Bioware, get pissy with radgametools that makes the Bink player. At least maybe we can get a native port of the bink player, then Bioware (and whatever other companies that port things to linux) can use that codec straight across for their games. Sounds reasonable to me, but out of the MANY MANY posts that I read, not ONE of them suggested this. They all just badgered Bioware.

By the way, Bioware looks like they are going to try and port the toolset, which would be sweet!

From the client page: "We have just been informed by Rad Game Tools that they have Linux versions of both Bink and Miles. ... This solves the two outstanding issues with the Linux Client, and I bet we will h...

Yeah, from what I could understand that was a misquote. They have a Miles codec for linux, but not a Bink one. This was 'fixed' after an hour on Bioware's site, from what I was reading on the comments off of happypenguin.org on the matter.
