  • help solve an annoying msn messenger problem!

    hey there

i have an annoying problem with msn messenger. even though i tell it not to under its properties it loads at start up! now this is annoying because it takes up ram, and it prevents trillian from starting up and connecting to my msn messenger account.

msn messenger is also disabled from starting up under msconfig, and yet it still does.

does anyone know a registry command to stop this problem, or something like that?

    cheers

Which Windows, 2kSP3 or XPSP2 allows to configure preffered apps.

Otherwise regedit and services (set messenger service to disabled is your friend).

Rename or delete "Msmsgs.exe" will prevent it from loading.

Perhaps the one most useful Win XP utility. Turn off MSN messenger, other "phone home" stuff, balloon tool tips, etc.

        Free, no adware.

Make sure it isn't in the startup folder.

Run msconfig again. I've seen messenger throw itself in there again when it's been disabled once already.

Really, just download XP-Antispy and run it. It'll take care of the messenger and some other XP annoyances.

Other apps like outlook will also load MSN unless you tell them not to...

Norton AntiVirus 2003 if Messenger protection is enabled eg.
Even though you might not see the gui, the executable is loaded.

Can't you just go into Messenger's options an uncheck "load at startup"?
