RAM. Seriously.
My machine went from "at times irritating" to "smooth as silk" (well as smooth as a single-chip machine can be) with the simple addition of an extra 256MB (bringing it to 768MB total).

Well it's case of dimmishing returns. Unless you're doing some big number crunching/photo editing I doubt you'll notice much differance after a couple of days.
Bloat like Ut2003 may see a differance.Last edited by The PIT; 4 June 2003, 12:22.

Well I have spent a few moment trying to think what I really need, and I realised that I had completely forgot about something. A hard-drive would be nice tbh, I used to have a 40 and a 20 but the 40 recently fried and it was our of warranty.
So I think that getting a nice big 40 - 60 gig HD would be nice. At the moment the biggest quarrel I have with my computer is the laoding in games like unreal 2 which are really bad. memory is next on my list and then finally a nice new cpu, as I think that the 1600 can hold a little longer
I'm actually thinking of waiting for the athlon 64's could be a long wait though

My RIG!
AMD 1600 XP
I'd get Athlon 2000 to 2500+, 1600+ is IMO not letting R9700 to it's full potential.
Abit Nforce NV7-133R
Board - IMO socket A = end of line so it's not worth to upgrade. You could resell and get nF2.
512 Crucial DDR memory
RAM - depends if you're going over commit charges. Gurm is an XP fan so I understand his need for 768MB.
Matrox Parhelia 128 mb(Super! card)
Saphire Radeon 9700(using the
omega's based on Cat 3.1's)
Videocards - OK
Sound Blaster Live 5.1
PLEXTOR 24X writer
Sony 16x DVD drive
OK, you might consider DVD burner, if you intend to backup a lot of stuff that require either DVD format or big size.
Customised Coolercase Extreme XS case(NEON Light )
Case, it's aestetics, acoustics and space, you decide.
Cable Modem
21inch!! EIZO (Best purchase I ever made)
Razer Boomslang 2000 dpi(best gaming mouse)
and loads more ....
Logitech cordless desktop MX.
HDD, get one of WD JBs. Installed one of this for a friend in PII333. The thingie pwns, it's a whole new rig (also upped RAM to 256MB and installed 2k instead of 98).Last edited by UtwigMU; 4 June 2003, 14:33.
