Chirac received a coded message from Dubya this morning after their
somewhat chilly discussions this week, during which Chirac tried with some
diplomacy
to suggest to Bubba Six that he might be a bit crude and rude.
The message simply read: S370HSSV-0773H
The French were stumped and staffed it throughout the government, to
include their best code breakers. Having a meeting with the Russian and
German
Ambassadors that afternoon on Iraq, Chirac also gave them a copy and asked
for help. The Russians couldn't solve it, but the Germans were quick to
respond:
"We received several such messages from the Commander of the 101st Airborne
when we had them surrounded at Bastogne. We recommend you simply turn the
message upside down."
