After a virus infection the device manager has disappeared. It just brings up an empty console screen. From it you can run other consoles such as user manager etc which is rather wierd. Sounds like a registry key has got a bit messed up.

Now thats what I couldn't remember. Devmgmt.msc.
Microshaft reckon it's the plug and play service thats not running. But to me clicking on the button seems to bring up the wrong console. I'll get back to it later this week. Serves the person right for opening dodgy emails.

Devmgmt.msc runs and loads and lists the devices but will not load from clicking on the device manager. Any other ideas??
