    Why?

    Let's see...

WMV versus Real? I'll take the WMV's, thanks.

IE6 versus Netscape? I'll take IE6. You could make an argument for Mozilla, but not Netscape.

I'm failing to see the problem here. This just means that the AOL browser will actually render 99% of web pages correctly now, and that Real might have to improve their shitty product or face bankruptcy. GOOD!

        Topha,

Not in the "does it display the majority of pages 100% as intended" category.

        Sorry.

No but with every release Opera is improving. It's gotten to the point where it is a very good contender against IE, and I will definately use it over IE any day.

I'm afraid Opera 7 has gotten more IE-like: More features (useful ones, though), a lot slower, less stable than 6.05. And some inconsistencies and missing features. Hopefully the performance problem (the biggest annoyance at the moment) will be sorted out come 7.2.

Some words are definitely spelled wrong too often, so that I learn them the wrong way, or forget how they are spelled correctly

Yeah. My biggest gripe (although I know why it happened) with Netscape 4 was that... Netscape 3 Gold ran INSTANTLY. On ancient hardware. Netscape 4 ran dog slow. Netscape 7 STILL RUNS DOG SLOW. On 2ghz machines!

It's a WEB BROWSER, for Chrissake. You surf the web with it. There is NO GOOD REASON AT ALL for a web browser to suck up that much memory, take that long to load, and run that slow.

I'm sad to hear there are glitches with Opera. Despite my pro-IE stance, I find Opera to be a far superior browser - at least in concept - and have high hopes for it. SOMEONE needs to break MS's stranglehold on the browser market, and make it at least a vague competition.

The glitches in Opera 7.11 are very minor, runs excellent in my opinion.

It IS still an excellent browser (and e-mail client as well, now, with M2). It's gotten better and better, there are just some initial problems with every major revision, and 7 is an almost complete overhaul (completely new rendering engine, completely new e-mail client, new UI...). 7 is so good that I am using it (and M2) despite its problems. I have even uninstalled 6.05, which was one of the most stable pieces of software I have ever used.

Now if Opera wasn't so damn greedy for memory - it occupies 75MB with only 6 windows open, and running only 2 hours or so.. on a machine with only 256.

BTW, most sites now work with Opera. You should give 7.2 a try when it comes, Gurm

I shall. I periodically install Opera, like it while it's installed, and then forget to reinstall it after my periodic Ghost restore. *shrug*

Last two releases from Opera suffer from long unexplained freezes on my machines. Normally when switching between tabbed windows. Back to IE.

I sometimes use Opera at school, thats on Linux (Red Hat 8) and it's very unstable sometimes, and some pages doesn't show corretctly either. Personaly I won't tutch Opera or any other browsers at my homecomputer. IE works good, and suits all my needs!

What about support for Transparent PNG's? Something that Mozilla and other browsers have had support for FOREVER and yet IE still does not have it.
