  • Virtual Terminals in 2.5.69 Kernel

Ok, after playing around with this, and browsing all over the net, I want to know why this isn't working! I have finally managed to get a 2.5.x kernel working for me. (mainly so I could try to get less PCI cards in my system, and since I have an Asus P4PE with built on Lan, I decided to get that working...) The problem I'm having is that I have no virtual terminal. As soon as it says "Uncompressing Kernel.... " it stops and loads up into X after waiting for a short while. I like to see the debug messages, and also would like to be able to switch to a virtual terminal every now and then.

The config of the kernel has Virtual Terminal selected as well as "Support for console on virtual terminal"

Do I need to put a 'append="console=tty0"' in it or what? When I first got it to load, it was great. I had no keyboard... so I had to build that one into the kernel, rather than a module. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nevermind on that, got that working just fine. Now the problem is that the broadcom 4400 driver that I did all this for DOESN'T WANT TO WORK!!! I load it up and it just keeps saying

    Listening on LPF/eth0/00:e0:18:b5:4d:c0
    Sending on LPF/eth0/00:e0:18:b5:4d:c0
    Listening on LPF/lo/<null>
    Sending on LPF/lo/<null>
    Sending on Socket/fallback/fallback-net
    DHCPREQUEST on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67
DHCPDISCOVER on lo to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 8
    DHCPREQUEST on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67
DHCPDISCOVER on lo to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 8
    DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 6
DHCPDISCOVER on lo to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 9

Then proceeds to say DHCPDISCOVER blah blah at different intervals.

The 3com card I have in my system seems to work flawlessly. Weird.

You'll have to compile Input Devices in, by default it's set as modules. Then you'll have to go under character devices and make sure the Virtual Terminal and Virtual Terminal in Console are both selected (it's the top two, if I recall correctly) Then go under the graphics options and make sure you enable VGA Text in the console.
