  • New 3D Windows GUI (3rd party)

    Have a look here guys:

The 3DNA Desktop improves the way you work with Windows and the Web. You can choose from different 3D Add-on Worlds to explore and customize for an immersive and entertaining desktop.

3DNA works by overlaying the wallpaper area and easily lets you toggle between your 3D and 2D desktop with the click of your mouse. The 3D Worlds also have toys to play with and integrated 3D games. You can move around easily, or simply teleport to different areas when you want to launch applications, open folders, speed-surf dozens of Web sites, or play music. Personalize each 3D World by hanging your digital photos on the walls by simply dragging them onto the picture frames.
    A bit strange to me.
    But this certainly is innovative.

I would get my desktop to look like the computer from Reboot on TV.

Actually this isn't what I'd call innovative. Looks like they just took the ideas from www.3dwm.org and slapped it on top of windows. Is it actually 3D where you can rotate your desktop around? (I'll have to give it a try in the morning when I'm more awake )

No, you're right. 3D GUI doesn't make sense until we have 3D pointing devices and screens.

Oh, and higher resolution of course - you can't read stuff that's in the background because the characters are so small that only a few pixels are used to render each - not enough to make it readable.

Yeah, interesting. Can't really see the point. Would be cool for about 5 minutes, then would drive you crazy.

I tried it, it sucked bigtime.

Laggy, stuttering and impossible to navigate.
Strange controls which are not possible to reconfigure.
Why oh why not use the classical WASD+mouselook which most computer users are used to?

It has been beaten to death numerous times:
As Az said ( ) untill our screens are much much highes res (72 is beggining to be a bit low ) it wont work

And lastly the "desktop/folders/files" emulation of a real desk is still the best way to use your computer

Longhorn can go to **** if it comes with that weird database FS
If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

The representation of your files as desktop/folders/etc doesn't have anything to do with the underlying FS does it?

Isn't the "database" FS just another name for a Journeling (sp?) FS.

but..... NTFS also is a journaling filesystem. Why all the commotion about a new 'database-like FS' when they mean journaling by that, which doesn't bring anything new to the windows platform?
