  • Woman "dies on the tracks"

BBC, News, BBC News, news online, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

Talks mainly about how the trains were delayed

I was there and saw this happen. A young woman (a girl really) jumped right in front of a speeding Eurostar. Witnessing something like this is not something I would wish on anybody

I'm alright, I'm just a bit shaken and feel a need to vent.
Blah blah blah nick blah blah confusion, blah blah blah blah frog.

I almost saw something like this once waiting for the train in Denmark. I was at the other end of the station when a guy jumped in front of the train... I am glad I missed seeing it, as I am sure that is something that will stay with you for a long time. I hope you get over it

        Shaken, but not stirred? (sorry)

I had a similar experience when a bloke threw himself infront of my train. I'll never forget seeing that decapitated body with a hand missing...

I can't get over this reporter is more concerned that the trains were late, than he was about this poor girl.

I agree, and this is a pretty strange way of putting it.

The Paris to London Waterloo service was disrupted just before 1800 BST near Orpington station in Kent, after a woman died beneath a train.
Died beneath a train. Don't make it gory but at least report that the woman jumped in front of the train.

Hundreds of passengers were trapped on a Eurostar train during the evening rush hour after a woman died on the tracks.

Darn it when you read it like that it's the dead woman's fault if the others were trapped in the train.

Back when I was still working the coroner would sometimes call out for off duty medical personnel from the local county hospital to scour for and flag "parts" in the aftermath of major train or plane "incidents".

Over the years I've been out on several of these, including 1 major airliner crash where the authorities called for additional help, and it's not fun at all.

                One incident in particular really affected me;

we found a seat with a woman sprawled over it. Under her was her 4 year old daughter....who ended up being the sole survivor of the crash. The mother had apparently shielded her daughter before impact.

Well actually, it kind of was, just that the story shouldn't be reporting of a delayed train as much as the death of a woman.

My dad told us stories about similar situations when he was in the military. Can't remember the exact details (aircraft crash or more likely an accidental ordinance explosion,) but he was one of the guys who had the unpleasant job picking up the scattered remains. It seems they were really "gibbed" to put it politely, and it took quite a while to find everything.

Most nerve-wracking thing I ever volunteered for was an incident about 30 years ago when some Grade-A morons decided it would be a good idea to break into a military reserve units arms locker near Detroit

Don't ask me how they got in, but they did.

One shell for a grenade launcher accidently went off during this fiasco, firmly implanting itself in one of the burglars without going off. Enter the emergency response and medical teams.

He was loaded into a military ambulance and **very gently** (meaning roadblocks, volulnteer drivers, full MP and police escorts etc.) brought to the county hospital where guess who was on duty in the imaging department at the time

After asking for unmarried volunteers a team (including yours truly) set about surgically removing said unexploded grenade shell from this morons body. No, not in the hospital but in a emergency surgical tent in the parking lot. Thank God for battery powered x-ray systems.

This took the team over 3 hours, after which we all went to the nearest bar and got throughly sloshed.

Bet the drinks never went down quite as good as that night.

They never tasted better and went down like they were on ball-bearings.

Most of us also took the next day off. Fortunately for them none of the supervisors at the time objected. If one had there would have been need for another surgery team

well, I partly don't blame him for it. Not that I value the timeliness (sp?) of trains over the life of a person, but more that people that want to kill themselves by throwing themselves in front a train, traumatising the train driver as well as possible witnesses are pretty egocentric.

I agree w/ dZeus...so this was suicide or a mistake? If it was suicide it was a real A-hole way to go. Jump of a building next time, don't make people late and screw up their lives.

If it was an accident, well, then that sucks.
