  • Using TMPEGEnc (Tsunami) with DV files....

If anyone is having problems with DV files encoding as blocky MPEG's in Tsunami this is aimed at you.

As has been noted many times DV uses a reduced 4:1:1 colorspace. This can cause problems because some color areas, particularly the reds, will tend to encode with block artifacts. This, of course, plays hell with the quality of the output MPEG file.

To help minimize the problem open the TMPGEnc/Options/Global Settings menu and check off the "Interpolate YUV data from 4:1:1 to 4:4:4" box and close the menu.

Now your DV's should encode with better quality. Not necessarily perfect, but better.
