GTA Vice City, has anybody tried it on a Parhelia? it looks like dog-shi*t on a 9500 Pro, as well as on a 4200. This game is definetly not worth buying (or downloading)

I haven't tried it yet, but I think I can borrow it from my friend maybe next week.

There is already a patch available for this game, witch should fix some graphic bugs. Have you tried it?

I only experienced a bit of corruption in one or two places, so I guess I should install the patch...but still, it's far better than the original on the technical side.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

It looks perfect, better than GTA III, I only saw some graphical glitches but nothing to worry about. Performance is great I get a constant 30FPS (Framelimiter is on, drawdistance = max) @ 1024 * 768 + FFA. Much better than GTA III.

I only got problems with my sound, it's crackling when there's lot of action, doesn't matter which setting I choose in the audio setup (selecting "dsound3d software emulation" cures the problem but gives a big performance hit).

          The game rocks.

A bit stuttery, but looks wonderful in 800x600x32 with 16xFAA, Gigacolor and aniso.

Can you go higher than that with FAA16x on?

                Is 1280*1024 or 1600*1200 usable?

Mine goes to 1280x1024 rsp. 3840x1024.
Can't select any higher, and it's impossible to hexedit the settings file either.

Looking truly neat, no difference in graphics from my m8s computer, with a GF3 Ti500.

1280*1024 is playable almost constant 30FPS with framelimiter on.
1600 *1200 is just playable, framerate fluctuates between 20 - 30 FPS. If you reduce the draw distance setting (max to medium) the frame rate only increase a bit.

I may have to buy a Parhelia soon because I need to run Windows 2000 Server and I'll have $4000 worth of Sony CRTs hook to it.

As I'll probably only be playing (when I do play) Vice City for some months, I'll be OK with a Parhelia until I build myself a dedicated machine for HL2 or D3 I guess; I have a 9700 Pro at the moment and its multi-monitor support (which I use +90% of the time) is bad under Windows 2000.

How does Gigacolor come into play when playing games?

Does the Parhelia scale well in Vice City with a fast CPU? (I have a P4 3.0C OCed to ~3.5 GHz)

As far as I'am aware the Parhelia does not scale particularaly well with new faster cpu's and have you considered the issue of banding ? I'm not saying dont buy a parhelia, I'm just saying consider all avenue's before you decide

Well ultimately I don’t expect to play any games with it other than GTA Vice City, which should last me until HL2 or Doom 3 comes along. I should have a dedicated cheapo gaming rig with an ATi or nVidia card by then.

As I understand it the banding only occurs in 3D with CRTs when VSYNC is off because the RAMDACs sometimes get overwhelmed with data and corruptions/de-synchronization occurs. By limiting frame rates to 60 FPS, which should be enough for a game like GTA VC where you don’t pan left and right violently all the time, banding shouldn’t occur.

                            Is this correct?

No, banding can occur with one crt operating, and it is very annoying in games, though you are only buying it for vice city and usually the bading can be resolved by turing FAA 16x off.
