My husband opened the door and the badger sat there and then, gradually, just slowly walked towards him and attacked him.

It caught him on his arm and, in the process of trying to get the badger off himself, he's lost quite a lot of skin on his arm and some of the flesh.
is that straight out of a horror novel or what?!

I personally think is was brain damaged or something, like the guy in "The Terminal Man"

Ok it's not like the badger was moving with blinding speed it was GRADUALLY walking towards the fellow...if you're that stupid to let a badger walk up and start to malling you then you deserve it...it's just as bad as these people who walk in national parks and go up to baby cubs to pet them...it's mainly human stupidity that gets humans hurt, and it's the animals that end up suffering

                            good point.

If a badger started walking towards me, however, I would think it was friendly and wanted some milk or something. How naive it that?

you've got to be careful these days
