  • What's that song?

    It's kind of a rock song I guess...singer is a male...deep voice...and all I remember is that he mentions "Witchita" in the song. Something about going to Witchita or something.

    "Witchita Lineman" recorded by Glen Cambell and written by Jimmy Webb;

    I am a lineman for the county and I drive the main road

    Searchin' in the sun for another overload

    I hear you singing in the wires I can hear you through the whine

    And the Wichita lineman is still on the line

    I know I need a small vacation but it don't look like rain

    And if it snows that that stretch down south won't ever stand the strain

    And I need you more than want you and I want you for all time

    And the Wichita lineman is still on the line

    And I need you more than want you and I want you for all time

    And the Wichita lineman is still on the line

      You sure that's it? I think I downloaded "witchita lineman" last night but it was a country song or something.

        How about "Whichta Skyline" by Shawn Colvin;

        Down at the train they go to Independence everyday
        But anywhere else now seems like a million miles away
        And I must have been high to believe that I would ever leave
        Now I'm just a flat fine line like the Wichita skyline
        I rode on the airstream across the great lonesome afternoon
        I wished hard enough to hurt, drove fast enough to catch the moon
        But I must have been dreaming again 'cause there's nothing around the bend
        Except for that flat fine line, the Wichita skyline

        As far as Salina I can get that good station from LaRue
        I'm searching the dial while I'm scanning the sky for a patch of blue
        And I watch the black clouds roll in chasing me back again
        Back to the flat fine line, the Wichita skyline

          Any possibility it (the one you're thinking of) was REM's cover version? Although that one's live, so you would have heard the crowd on it.

                Why is it that the only person to spell Wichita correctly is in GERMANY of all places?!?

                  It COULD be the REM version, but i can't find it anywhere. Damn.

                  But the guy had a REALLY deep voice. And the song rocked.

                      I'll rip/Ogg it up and send it to you if you want. PM me your email address.

                      Although if you're saying he had a REALLY deep voice, it probably wasn't Michael Stipe.

                        Everytime I see the name Wichita I think of the film Planes, Trains and Automobiles
