  • Looking for a new soundcard....

Ok, I am looking for a new soundcard, I've seen the ones with the 7.1 surround sound and they are looking pretty sweet. Now my question is though, how well are they supported under my favorite OS? It'd be quite nice to have surround sound in linux. Of course right now I have a SBLive 5.1 and I have all the channels working properly.

    I've seen this soundcard here:

And was wondering what everyone thought about it, and how well it works. Alsa says it supports the revolution soundcard:

So what does everyone think of this card? Of course finding a 7.1 speaker set will be another chore in itself..... Though I'm considering just getting a nice Audio/Video receiver for that....

I think (and think is the operative word here) that M-Audio have been quite helpful with regard to releasing programming specs for their cards. What you really should do is ask the ALSA guys or look through their mailing-list archives, and see how OSS-friendly and cooperative they actually are. If they are, then there's a very good chance the card will be well-supported in the near future, even if it doesn't all work well now.

Of course, we all should have learned this by now (G200-era Matrox vs. Parhelia-era Matrox)
Blah blah blah nick blah blah confusion, blah blah blah blah frog.

Indeed, I should ask on there, I usually ask here, 'cause that way I don't have to sign up for something else, and usually everyone here on MURC know what they're talking about .

We should just start sending Matrox a lot of emails to Sales wanting their linux drivers to improve. As I did yesterday.
