  • Parhelia: New driver slower than previous?

    Hi all,

    I revised my cooling today...
And I can now overclock to 245/655 on air.

So, I tried to do some 3dmark03.
But... it is slower than 1.03 driver??

In 1.03, my score is 1025 with 242/650.
    Now 1.04, mine is 1006 with 245/655?

My Windows is pretty much the same, i.e. all apps closed all services stopped.

I notice that the fillrate is dropped quite dramatically...
Has anyone noticed the same slowdown?

    Cheers.

Hmm..mine are faster overall. Moreso in actual games than 3DMarks though.

Mayhap you overclock too much that it's not running well?

      1.8%?
Yer complaining about a measly 1.8% in 3dfart??

That little a change could be attributed to anything.
You can get a bigger variance than that running the benchmark 2 times in a row with no change to anything.

You can try increasing the AGP Aperture size in the BIOS

I'm not complaining, I'm just wondering... because I see no real difference in games.
And when I run it two times in a row, it is in the margin of 3 points.
And I have ran it more than two times.

I get ~800 with my trusty Compaq
              P4 2.0
              Compaq's customized Intel 845
              1024 MB SDRAM 133MHz
              WD 80GB
              WD 120GB w/ 8MB Cache on Promise Ultra100 TX2
              Matrox Parhelia-512 R 128MB
              SBLive 5.1 w/ kX drivers
              WinXP

[edit] I forgot to mention that my core is one of those 217 MHz thingies [/edit]

But I'm happy, since 3dMark means nothing, and what really matters is that my gaming performance feels like it has doubled since the last drivers.
Heck, I can play most games at 1600x1200 w/ full features at acceptable framerates. That includes FAA-16x, GC and 2x Aniso.

I just have a quick question here for everyone.... why the hell do you NEED FAAx16 on when you're running at 1600x1200?

Maybe he has a 50" screen...resolution means nothing if you don't know the screen size!

I think the one they use most is Powerstrip, http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm.
Another method of finding out clock speeds is dumping the BIOS PINS of the card, but that's a little advanced so let's not get into that.

Matrox has also made a Tech Support Tweak Utility of their own, ftp://ftp.matrox.com/pub/mga/utils/t...mtstu50204.zip
but I don't think it shows exact clock speeds (can't confirm, since I don't currently use a Matrox card).

tnx, no the matrox tweak utility does not show clock speed..

I saw some peeps in here change thier heatsink on the matrox and put one that will keep it cooler with fans! Wouldn't a coolant system work just as good?

Are you referring to a phase-change cooling system???
