United surprisingly offered few changes to the side that did so well against Arsenal. Windass replacing the chief and Asaba starting his first game in place of kabba and Rankine instead of the injured Mcall . Otherwise the team was unchanged with Ndlovu playing on the right pushing up to join the fornt two.
United quickly astablished themselfs and with the defence untroubled kept pressing Forrest back. However wasteful finnishing from Brown and Ndlovu and a good save from the Forrest goalkeeper prevented United taking a deserved three nil half time lead.
Indead the Forrest attack was so poor one wondered if the forty goals between them was a misprint. The attack might have looked threatening in the conferance on this warm evening but certainly not at the lane. The only chances created were a cross flashed across the goal area and a weak header past the post.
Paddy Kenny despite being ill releifed his boredom by taking the piss and comfortably out passing the ineffective front line. The best being punching the ball out and then out sprinting the lumbering forrest player, then letting him catch up before kicking it out for a throw in.
The 2nd half promised to be much brighter with Forrest surely being able to lift their game. The 2nd half started in the same manner with Uniteds defence comfortable and the Forrest attack strangley inadept. Finally in the 60th minute United took the deserved lead with the ball falling to Asaba too side foot it into the Forrest net.
At last Forrest showed some urgency and with United now showing visable signs of tiredness from Sunday Forrest now had the best chances to come back into the game.
However the Forrest front line continued it's poor performance and despite tired legs United hung on easily.
On this performance Forrest will need to depend on their seemingly free scoring at home to advance in the playoffs. The game plan for the others in the play offs is easy. Keep Forrest out on their own ground and it's easy pickings later.
