XP2400+ or XP2500+

  • XP2400+ or XP2500+

    XP2400+is £87. XP2500+ is £120.

    What would you get? I currently have a XP1900+ and a a7m266, but plan to get a new mobo for the cpu. Will need to buy new mem for new mobo. Idea is to have 2 good systems.
    I'm interested in o/c this if its easy & likely to be stable.

    2500+ is the current "sweet spot" for AMD CPU's. Should be able to squeeze a little extra juice out of it with some overclocking.

      XP2400+. the 2500+ is 30% more expensive and you won´t get 30% more performance for sure. More like 10%, and you won´t even notice it on a daily basis use.

        2200+ and OC it! Mine has been running at 2025MHz (Cheap RAM) for a mionth now Does over 2200MHz with DDR 400 mem!
        According to the latest official figures, 43% of all statistics are totally worthless...

          be carefull with the 2200+'s though as i expect there are still t'bred A out there whihc i have and overclocks to a mere 1860 mhz with stability, at the price it would be silly not to go for a 2400+
          is a flower best picked in it's prime or greater withered away by time?

            Thanks. Lots of different opinions! The XP2200+ is only £5 less.
            Is the 333 bus not worth the extra of the Barton range, especially as I'll have to buy new mem anyway?

            I was going hold out for a Barton for sure, but now the 2400+ is only £87, it is tempting to get it now.

                I am on the same motherboard generation as you - I have a sis735 board and a7m266 is a AMD760 chipset right? Do as I did: Get a 133Mhz fsb XP2400+ (plenty of performance for now), then think later to get a motherboard that unlocks the T-bred B multiplier. Besides future cpu support, get the 2400+ on a 166+ fsb and that combined with a faster/dual DDR/whatever chipset will give another major performance boost.

                  The main advantage of the Barton is it's extra L2 cache. It's worth noting that the Bartons are clocked lower than the previous XP's i.e. an XP2500+ runs at 1.83Ghz whereas the XP2400+ runs at 2.0Ghz.

                    which should make it possible to overclock it to 2GHZ without problems then?

                      Actually, you can't clock too much out the Bartons... I think the best you can hope for is 2.1GHz for the 2500+.

                      But for the 2400+... you can very possibly run it at 12*200!!
                      Tbred B's win for overclocking MHz ratio.
                      Now 2100+ is a good choice too! Overvolt it like mad and if it dies... well it dies, get another one for cheap!

                        it'll depend on the board and it's multipliers and the bus speeds available. depending on what your doing the extra bus speed and cache will speed up the system. i think i read somewhere that the cache helped in riping dvd's. the iwill xp333 is simi cripled in that the chip they used for the multiplier didn't give them enough options ( bits)limiting them to 12.5. the barton xp2500 fits nicely at 11 x 166 and up.

                          One thing would be nice in that table: Watts output of heat for each speed/voltage/core... !=max die temp!

                            I'd also like to point out that they differ on the actual clock speeds of the higher-end Athlons - e.g. they say the 3000+ runs at 2167MHz, and that the 2800+ is a 2250MHz T-bred.

                              Just got my XP2100 (revB) running. I did the "socket unlock" and things are doing pretty well. The 14x and 15x multipliers loop over so the chip runs at 5x or 5.5x, etc.

                              At the moment I have it running at 166 x 12.5, so 2075 which my BIOS kinda calls a 2400+. Oh, 1.7V. I'm done playing for the night though.
                              Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.
