Any thoughts on the new Radeon 9800 anyone? It sounds mighty awesome to me...

Some general specs I read in a recent article

The Specs: nVidia GF FX 5800 Ultra

    > Core type: nVidia NV30

    > Core clock: 500MHz

    > Core process: 0.13-micron

    > Memory type: DDR II

    > Memory size: 128MB

    > Memory speed: 500MHz

    > Available: Now

The Specs: ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

    > Core type: ATI R350

    > Core clock: 378MHz*

    > Core process: 0.15-micron

    > Memory type: DDR

    > Memory size: 128MB

    > Memory speed: 338MHz*

    > Available: Now

    * These are the core and memory clock speeds of the actual Radeon 9800 Pro board tested for this story. Shipping clock speeds are slightly higher (380MHz core/340MHz memory).

Just spectacular!!. I wouldn't have bought Parhelia if I knew it underperformed. Parhelia's spec is fantastic but the real performance is so lacking.
I would really like to buy Radeon9800... Only if I could trash this Parhelia and get my money back

      From the article:
ATI has just announced its challenge to nVidia’s GeForce FX. The new card is called Radeon 9800 Pro, and it packs mucho 3D firepower in a quiet, unassuming package
Was the 9700 Pro not enough of a challenge as it was?

I wonder how it gets on with AGP x8 boards as the pro seems to have a problem in some cases despite the board revisions.

The drivers for the new 9800 should be (suprisingly engouh for ATI) pretty good mainly b/c they are going to use the divers from the 9700 as a base which has been out for about six months or so now, and hence has most of the bugs worked out of it, looks like the dawn of a new graphics card king...All hail Radeon!!

If the performance advantage over the R9700pro core is really more than higher clock speeds is to be seen when catalyst 3.3 is released. If you can´t wait, there´s a quick hack on http://www.tommti-systems.com/ (warning - innapropriate pop-ups alert) that turns you R9700 on a R9800

But I do agree ATi is really delivering, contrary to Nvidia and its haidryerFX

Their is a quick fix that allows the 9700 to use the 9800 path, but cat3.3 will have the fully optimised 9700 path.

9800 has some changes in the Silicon that are not yet used, but will soon(tm) at which point using the 9800 path on a 9700 will proabbaly crash.
