  • "One" advantage of Digital 8

I read, at a DV comparison site, that Digital 8 suffers from very little dropout problems than miniDV.

Can us lowly Digital8 owners have just one advantage or am I to be smited for my incompetence?

Consider yourself smited, or should it be smitten? I've never heard such codswallop (US bulls..t) for many a long day. D8 can use cheap tapes which can drop out like a car over sleeping policemen at speed. It can also use good tapes with minimal drop-out. I have never observed a single drop-out on mini-DV tapes of any make in over 3 years of using them (new or recycled tapes). As these tapes are evaporated types, it would seem unlikely that they would be suusceptible to it, short of dust particles being caught up (and that would apply to any type.

        Sorry

Apparently this is a common problem in Cyprus.

I've seen maybe 2 dropouts and they were caused by a tape flaking. Both were on Hi8's. This is not an unusual happening with Hi8 tapes, so it wasn't exactly a suprise.

I do believe that Hi8's are the tape recommended for feeding D8's, yes?

Dropouts on DV? I've yet to see the first on my cam (Panasonic).

Sorry, I thought sleeping policemen were common throughout the world, but it seems not so in antipodean climes. They are raised areas, also known as speed bumps, built across a road, ostensibly to slow down traffic, frequently subsidised by the local suspension specialist.

I took an unsignalled one at about 50 km/h under poor lighting conditions (fortunately in my daughter's car, not mine) in Switzerland, a year or so ago. Quite an experience My granddaughter (13 at the time), who was my passenger, knew it was there but didn't warn me and thought it was the biggest joke since God made little green apples so sour that He has a good laugh everyn time a kid tries one.

Antipodean = left handed = bass ackwards.

                    It's an Aussie/New Zealander/southern hemisphere thing.

Antipode: You draw a straight line from where you stand, going through the center of the Earth, to the other side of the globe. Where it crosses the surface on the other side is the antipode.
As for the *an clime* part, refer to Dr M's.
