  • MJPEG to DivX? Is it possible?

I have captured a mjpeg file with vdub, using the picvideo codec at quality setting 19, and I want to encode it using the divx 5.03pro codec. The problem is, that somewhere during the encoding process vdub will just stop encoding. It still shows the status window and counts the time, but it stands at 0.0fps. When I abort the process, it crashes.

This happens both with 1 pass only and with the first pass setting for divx.

Then I tried to crop and filter the file prior to encoding to divx, and recompressed it again at mjpeg quality 19. That file however, shows only the first frame when played back with the ATI fileplayer (I captured with an AIW 8500DV) or WMP, although I hear sound. When I jump to another part of the file it stops. But I can open and edit it without problems in vdub, yet trying to encode to divx still does not work.

I tried vdubmod, frameserving the file to divx tools like Gknot and DVX, but nothing worked.

Anyone know where the problem is?

    Are you encoding audio also?

Then the fault lies there, probably. Try lowering the bitrate to, for example 128 or 96 kbps. If that doesn't help, try another codec, preferably Fraunhofer's mpeg layer-3 codec.

Try just compressing the video, if that works then compress the audio separatly, and multiplex them together with AviMux...

at least that way, you know where the fault comes from.

I had problems and crashes when i try to encode the video and audio at the same time, and also, it is slower than doing them separatly...

Thats what I am doing, because I had a leftover mp3 vbr 160kbps from my Gknot try

And encoding is working fine so far (just video)!

              Thanks for the help guys

Sugest split audio out to wave and convert to mp3 seperately.
Convert Video alone to MP4 (whatever codec).
Then rejion in vdub or nandub.
As long as files are still same length (time) should be perfect.
I do it all the time.
