Some advice with intel!

Ok this is my first time using intel in a long time, in fact the last intel chip I used was the P3. I'am about to buy an intel p4 board, with an intel chipset and some RDram from a friend. Though I was wondering what is a nice chip to pair up with it. As there appear to be different revisions of the P4. Any advice on other components, as the only thing I have is the gfx card, mobo and memory.

If it was DDR based I had some suggestions, but I've stayed away from any of the rambus (gag) based stuff. I'm sure you'll enjoy the wonderful world of rambus :P

I'm using the ASUS p4te with 512mb RDRAM and 2.4a processor - this actually scores higher then a 2.4b with ddram in video editing benchmarks.
I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever with this setup - and I have every card slot filled.

I'd look hard at some of the new SiS chipset based boards. From the SiS 648 up to the new SiS 655 (dual channel DDR) they've been getting great reviews and the boards are more economical than Intel chipped versions.

Also; SiS will intro their "HyperStreaming" technology at CeBit 2003

Well... See sig. I am using i850E. Great chipset! I think i850E is the best RAMBUS solution on the market so far.

SiS. They are much better than before. I wasn't very happy with my 745 (performance and stability wise), but then it could be problem from Asus's end. Well, other than SiS I guess you have no other solutions for an AMD rig (but when you are getting Intel, you do have more choices). Via... let's not go there .

Well... SiS is making a chipset for RAMBUS memory, but seeing that you have some money to throw at, I think Intel is the way to go. After all, Intel do have better repetition than SiS IMO.

But I do have a question: why RDRAM? DDR is probably the future.

I am even thinking about buying an Asus P4T-M, wchich I've found in some shop really cheap (50 euros) for secondary computer (wchich doesn't need huge amounts of ram, so rambus price is no problem; besides, compared to ddr it isn't that high anymore).
The problem is...no socket 423 P4...

Old 0.18 process chips with 256k cache. DO NOT BUY.

Northwood
New 0.13 process chips with 512k cache.
Very good overclocking. (especially 1.6a and 1.8a)

Northwood "B"
New 0.13 process chips with 512k cache, and 133MHz FSB (effectively 533MHz).
3.06G version has Hyperthreading.

Mobile
Selected 0.13 process chips with 512k cache, 1.3V by default.
On desktop it is locked to 12x mutiplier for all P4-M, due to SpeedStep technology. EXTREME clockers.
You'd be VERY unlucky to find a P4-M that doesn't do 200MHz FSB.
No heatspreader though.

Celeron ----

Below 2G
Willamette core, 128k cache. CRAP.

At or above 2G
Northwood core, 128k cache. Most 2G chips can hit 3G!! Thought a 3G Celeron is still slower than a 2.4a P4...

Mobile
Should be as good as P4-M but without 12x multiplier.
No too many people have experience with them....

Well all I can say is I'm 17, you have to know where to look I'm computer mad ..hehe I also have friends in the biz, a good m8 of mine works for PC Zone If you need any hardware etc just let me know that goes for everyone in the murc
