  • A question of G550

    i confused with my G550.
    is the ram of G550 is 64bit DDR SDRAM?

    Yes, thats correct!
    64-bit memory is one of the thing limiting the G550

      G400 = dual bus 256bit SGRAM

      meaning 128 up and 128 down, dual command pipelining. You can read more in this .pdf.

      G450 = 256bit dual bus = 128bit DDR

      G550 = 256bit dual bus = 128bit DDR

      As you can see G400, G450 and G550 all have similar memory implementation

        no no no, dual bus is just internal thing to prevent "congestion" of data...

        in reality (externally) it looks like this:
        g400 = 128bit sdr
        g450 & 550 = 64bit ddr

          yup. nowhere is right. the graphics processor itself is 256-bit. Meanwhile the G400, G450 and G550 memory interface are of the same "data rate" assuming their memory runs at the same clock.

          edit: so it goes like this:

          G400: 128-bit SDRAM
          G450: 64-bit DDR SDRAM
          G550: 64-bit DDR SDRAM

          Oh yea. does anyone knows what memory interface the G450MMS uses? (Too lazy to read up the PDF )

          Seriously, I really wish to see a G550 with a 128-bit DDR SDRAM controller, 64MB of frame buffer memory. (and of course DX 7 competible T&L + DX8 vertex (and hopefully pixel) shaders. probably that's the specs the origional G800 planned, with displacement mapping (i thought in GDC 2000 or something Matrox demonstrated an unnamed graphics hardware doing HDM, even before the G550 went into the marketplace)

          Edit 2: Okay nevermind. G450 never came with 128-bit SDRAM. My bad

            What's the clock speed of G550, G400 = 126/168?

            A 64MB DX 7.0 G550 @ 200-250/200/250 128bit DDR would be what G800 should be.

            G550 is something in the lines of G800MX/LE/DC

              according to power strip, it's 133/166.
