  • 2 different desktop colour depths = icons fall back to 256 colour mode

    Primary desktop Matrox G400 16SH 1024x768x32@85 32 bit
Secondary desktop Matrox MGA Millennium/2BN 1024x768@85 16bit (this baby has too little RAM to do 32 at this resolution)

During the process I also uninstalled G400 drivers and updated them to latest 5.88 version for Windows 2000 (fallback to 256 colour mode uppon removal)

Now disabling 2nd head, disaling show icons using maximum colours, rebooting and enabling show icons... did the trick for desktop and quiclaunch.

However the taskbar button icons and icons in system tray are still 256-colour versions.

      Just read this thread: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum...00/r1014713659

Maybe some of the solutions work for you.

The only thing that works for me is to use same colour depths for both graphics cards (Geforce 2GTS + Millenium I (my PC at work)). I never found a good solution for this (altough I never bothered to search for one).
      Main: Dual Xeon LV2.4Ghz@3.1Ghz | 3X21" | NVidia 6800 | 2Gb DDR | SCSI
      Second: Dual PIII 1GHz | 21" Monitor | G200MMS + Quadro 2 Pro | 512MB ECC SDRAM | SCSI
      Third: Apple G4 450Mhz | 21" Monitor | Radeon 8500 | 1,5Gb SDRAM | SCSI
