  • Need some help using Huffyuv capture with avi_io using G400 Marvel. I've searched!

I have searched the forum threads but don't fully understand how to do this. I've downloaded and install Huffyuv and avi_io. Is there a way to get better capture than using MJPEG? Could someone please give me some tips for set-up and settings?

    Thanks!

I assume you're asking how to setup avi_io to use HuffYUV for capture...

First off you have to enable YUV in the VidTools drivers. Support is there (in Windows 9x) but Matrox disabled it because it has some issues. Download Flying Dutchman's YUV enabler from the download section of this site. After you run it, there will be a YUY2 (or something very similar) option in the video format selection dialog box of avi_io. Select the YUY2 radio button, and set the desired video size like normal. In the compression selection dialog, select HuffYUV compression. Now you're ready to go. On my P-III 650, I can do 704x480 29.97 fps captures with this setup and it rarely drops a frame. HuffYUV is a lossless codec, so the output quality is much better then MJPEG, especially if you're encoding to MPEG. Hope this helps!
