  • Marvel g200 and SB live problems

    Hi,
    I just upgraded my generic sound card to a SB Live value. Now I can't get good sound. real bad static.

    How do I hook up the Marvel Audio cables to the Live? It looks like the Sb live has 3 outputs 1 main, 1 rear speaker, 1 auxiliary out.

    Currently I have audio out to the microphone of SB Live and the audio in to the auxiliary out.

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Pigseye

    Pigseye,
    I have the Marvel and SBlive (full) and the way I connect my sound is through audio splitters (y-connectors). I have the "line out" on the going to the line in on the live, and the "line in" going into a splitter which is connected to the front channel on the SBLive. With this config, I have had no problems at all.

      Mswan or anyone with a Live and Marvel,

      which plug in is the line-in on the "Live"?

      There doesn't appear to be a "line-in" on the SB Live value. I have 4 plug ins.

      * Front Speaker out
      * Rear speaker out
      * microphone
      * Auxiliary out - for Stereo, CD PLayer, Taped deck etc. The icon on the back of the card indicates that this is an output not a line-in.

      If I hook up the audio out to the auxiliary out there's no sound. this is expected if this is truly an Aux out.

      The output of the Marvel works because if I plug the audio out to the speakers I get good sound.

      Note: I was using a splitter too on my old sound card and had no problem. Cannot figure out how to use the splitt4er to get the marvel sound to work.

      A more clear description of your set up would be very helpful. Could you ID your Live plug ins as they are described in the manual?

      Thanks,
      Pigseye

          Hi,

          I've got SB!Live Value. It has four external connectors (jack females):

          Line in - (blue)
          Microphone In - (red)
          Line out(front) - (green)
          Rear out - (black)

          Don't forget that outputs are on "Line level" (not amplified). That means you will need active speakers to hear the sound. Speakers builded in monitor usually have an own amplifier.

          My connection:
          Marvel thick cable = MTC.
          SB!Live Value = SBL

          [MTC].Line In -> [SBL].Line Out
          [MTC].Rear* Out -> [SBL].Line In
          [SBL].Line* out -> active speakers or monitor's speakers.

          *) It doesn't matter which output you will use. If you switch SBL to 4 speaker configuration without any effect the
          signal on both outputs is identical. I usually use 2 speaker config., the sound is not going to BOB. But you can perform capture if you want (don't forget to Mute off or Select Line In in mixer). If I want to listen DVD or any video production from PC to TV I just switch to 4 speaker configuration and mute sound on PC monitor (or turn off active speakers)
          If you want to play games with 3D four speaker sound you will need Y-cable for some output (for me it's rear out).

          I hope I've helped you some.

            Ivan,
            thanks for your help. The TV sound is working fine but now I have no control of the volume with the Matrox PC remote.

            Is your system the same?

            Thanks again,

              All the SB Live! did for me, apart from make me 'oooh' and 'ahhh' at the positional sound and treble/bass controls, was allow me to drop lots more frames when capturing video. I think you need substantial under-the-hood processor power to use this card to any justice. Until then, I went back happily to my SB PCI 64.

                aryko,
                don't tell me that! Hopefully my system will be fast enough.
                If it's not, this card will have to go in another PC.

                thanks,

                  Pigseye, be sure to clear mute check on Wave/DirectSound controller in Play Control application or in SB Mixer App.
                  My PC-VCR Ramote works on both Win98 & NT.

                  I haven't any problems with dropped frames while capturing (PII400). I have replaced my SB AWE64 to SB!Live because of audio capture at 48kHz.

                    I actually have that setup in my Celeron 300a oc'd to 450 system and the SBLive Value sounds OK although once every so often the card puts out this popping sound. Oh and Premiere 4.2 had a BSOD when I tried to capture. Otherwise everything is just peachy.

                      Hi, I have soundblaster Live also and am using this with avid 1.0. i'm pretty sure my settings are okay excpet that whenever i go to render my file out to VCR all the boxes within my play/volume control become muted and no sound outputs to the VCR only picture. When i unselect avid cinema the play control boxes return to their normal unmuted setting, puzzled! any help appreciated

                        I personally found that buying the CD from creative and installing the software from it gives the best results on installs, and just use the Creative web site for updates only. The CD is worth the $15 because of the clean install and you get al the options. IMHO

                          Hi!

                          As I stated in another thread today ( http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/Forum2/HTML/004776.html ), Live! problems are more often associated with motherboards.

                          My set-up is simple: Marvel BOB is connected to Line In and Rear and my speakers to Front. I have set up preset configurations to send sound to one of a) speakers b) TV out c) both and d) neither according to what I'm doing. Of course, I don't have four speakers, but who needs that for video editing?
