    Hi...

    Anyone know how do I actually USE this???
    Motherboard Infrared Header...

    Do you just buy some infrared LED's and connect to it or what?

    You need a device like this:


    I once tried such a thing (this model actually), but it turned out to be incompatible with my Psion (actually, with the Psion software, which had no native support for IR-ports and the Windows version which did not generate virtual ports).

    It did work splendidly with my Siemens GSM phone.

          There should still be some voltage conversion, and some signal cleaning.
          Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

            Rx Tx and 2 ground.

              You sure it's two ground? I think it would need a couple amps, so I'd say Tx, Rx, Vdd, Gnd.

              LEDs output voltage based on the intensity of light. You're going to need to boost the recieved signals if they're over any kind of distance.

                I'll check price on IrDA sensor and LED now

                But you sure the amp is not for sensor?

                      Hehe, a scanner makes a great 'digital camera'


                      This one is intended to attach directly to the ir header on the m/b and mount to a window on the case.
                      I believe any mobo supplier should be able to get one.
                      It's handy for printing to i/r capable printers like my hp 6p, or transfering files to/from a laptop.

                            Also mind the orientation of pins when connecting the thingy to the mobo... I've seen loads of those devices with Tx LED fried because if you connect pin 4 to pin 1 you give the LED 5v+ which destroys it very fast and efficent... My brother did exactly that, but it was only partially his fault because ABIT header has the 1st pin marked (voltage?) while the EPOX IrDA has the 4th pin marked (Tx?). He connected mark to mark and voila...
