  • Sad Tunes

    Hello All
A friend of mine was killed douring military service two weeks ago.
I'm making a Flash presentation for his parents and i'm looking for a sad tune to put in background.
Basicly it should be sad, instrumental (no singing), slow something...

    suggestions?

    Barber's Adaggio for Strings

The Adagietto from Mahler's 5th symphony

    ...spring immediately to mind.

          Sad to hear that.

I've always though that Ennio Morricone's "Chi Mai" (the theme from "The Professional") is a highly emotional piece of music. Like the Bach above, it is more "nostalgic" than sad though, so it might be too happy for the occasion.

Ava Maria (instrimental version of course) is a great song.

We play it at all the family funerals so far...Then again we come form an Italian family so that has a bit to do it, none the less a good one.

Sorry about their loss by the way.

this one gets probably too happy as the song progresses, but maybe worth considering: santana - samba pa ti
just checked it, gets way too "happy" beyond 2:00.

                  Pink Floyd - Marooned
                  Bethoven - 'Moonlight' Sonata
Siciliana - Breaking the waves Soundtrack

Also take a look at some of Bach's cello suites - imho the Jaqueline du Pre recordings are sublime...

Yah. If you're looking for powerful but not necessarily classical... snag the instrumental stuff from the early parts of The Wall by Pink Floyd. Shit'll make you weep.

I'm the least you could do, oh yeah

This may be a long shot ... it's kind of a sad, yet not depressing song, with lyrics that are almost poetic. The stretch is that it's techno'ish.

                        Group: VNV Nation
                        Album: FuturePerfect
                        Song: Beloved

                        Jammrock

                        Lyrics:

                        Beloved

                        it's colder than before
the seasons took all they had come for
                        now winter dances here
it seems so fitting don't you think?
to dress the ground in white
                        and grey

it's so quiet I can hear
                        my thoughts touching every second
that I spent waiting for you
                        circumstances afford me
no second chance to tell you
                        how much I've missed you

                        my beloved do you know
when the warm wind comes again
another year will start to pass
and please don't ask me why I'm here
                        something deeper brought me
                        than a need to remember

we were once young and blessed with wings
no heights could keeps us from their reach
no sacred place we did not soar
still greater things burned within us
I don't regret the choices that I've made
I know you feel the same

                        my beloved do you know
how many times I stared at clouds
thinking that I saw you there
these are feelings that do not pass so easily
I can't forget what we claimed was ours

                        moments lost though time remains
I am so proud of what we were
                        no pain remains, no feeling
                        eternity awaits
grant me wings that I might fly
                        my restless soul is longing
                        no pain remains, no feeling
                        eternity awaits

ChenSoft, if you can insert voice and singing then "take a ear" to the Amused to Death album from Roger Waters and Final Cut from Pink Floyd.
Also Blowin' in the Wind from Bob Dylan could be a good choice.
