I think they know that, regardless how much optimisation they do in the drivers ATI Radeon 9700 cards are going to pull ahead in 3dmark 2003 and they know that this is going to make their new FX's even harder to sell

Wow, scathing. Looks like nVidia forgot to send Tom his latest check
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Second, it causes graphics hardware manufacturers to focus attention and engineering resources on optimizing for artificially fabricated cases that are a-typical of games. Such optimizations generally do nothing to improve real game performance, and provide no benefit to the consumer.

Sounds like they want their ball back

They didn't seem to mind when they were selling loads of GeForce 4's due to it's 3D Mark scores

                Payback's a bitch...

Sow that you will reap: you will always reap more than you sow.

So it is with Nvidia. NVidia needs to be rolled, robbed and raped: maybe then they'll learn that it isn't fun to be treated like an ugly stepchild when things aren't going so well.

ATI, for their part have been cheerfully silent on the matter, having been there in the not-so-distant past.
