  • Why only on APG 2X - G400 DH

Why my Matrox G400 DH only works on AGP 2X? My mobo (Abit KT7A) does support AGP 4X.

How can i force AGP 4X?. Bios setting AGP 4X is enabled.

    Tnx

Don't bother. It won't help anything.

The first G400s could not do 4x transfers, though they where compatible with a 4x slot/voltage.

Find the part# on the white sticker of your card (G4+_______)
This # will tell you the exact capabilities of your card.

And Wombat's right...you will see ZERO difference in performance between 2x and 4x. It's all marketing hype.

            That's not a G400.
            It's a G450. It should be 4x compatible.
You can download the Matrox Tech Support Tweak Utility (MTSTU) from the Matrox site, and force 4x with that.

I was looking the bag (OEM), not the card. Wow...

Anyway, now i have another question. I'm buying new motherboard, with AGP 8×. Is this a problem, if my G400/450 will not work on AGP 4× (MSTSU doesent help with forcing 4× transef mode. BTW, MSTSU tells me, that the card is G400 DH. Does it read form card BIOS or form win. driver?)

i'm woring about voltages, destroying new mobo...

              Tnx

disregard questions about G450. Real sticker _on card_: G4+MDHA32G.

AAArrgh!! No go! This G400 could destroy ma new mobo. The code is "wrong" (model): if your model is ...4H... is OK, my is not.

Now! I have to buy _less_ capable G450.

Ummm, what? That card can't do anything bad to your motherboard.

As i understand Lui (official Forum), the card can not work properly in _only_ 1.5 V mobo's, because it can not run on 4× AGP.

All G400s can run at 1.5v or 3.3v.
The earlier ones (like yours) can sometimes have difficulty detecting the proper settings on certain motherboards, but a simple modification to the card will fix that right up.

Just had to go dig up the info....

Use a soft lead pencil, and short out the connectors for r68.
This will allow the card to work in the few motherboards it has trouble with...
