  • RT2000 questions

I am very happy with my Marvel G200, but have had my eye on the DVRaptor for a while (as soon as I get my DV camera...).

Now an opportunity has come up for me to do serious freelance production work at home, so I am suddenly in the position to consider the RT2000. I would be using it for producing Motion and Video menus for (low-mid budget) DVDs. I don't neccessarily need to deliver DVD encoded video, I could also output to DV and give that to my client for MPEG2 encoding, but being able to encode files ready to import into the Authoring system would be great.

I think I have a pretty good handle on the RT2000's capabilities, but I have a few questions (and I can't register on the Matrox forum, until I buy!):

    1) Can I use both the RT2000 DV and MPEG2 encoded footage directly in After Effects, or do I have to transcode to another format before importing to After Effects?

    2) Can I render directly out of After Effects in either format? Does the RT2000 speed up rendering or previews in After Effects?

    3) When editing in Premiere, does the RT2000 use the Dual Head capability to see video on a TV Monitor or can I use the video out of the BOB (like my Marvel) while editing and also view my workspace on 2 computer monitors?

    4) I have heard that transcoding to DVD spec IBP MPEG2 takes about 5x real time. Is that about right? Is there a time/speed difference if the project is in DV rather than I-frame MPEG2?

    5) How is the VBR IBP MPEG2 encoding/transcoding picture quality compared to other boards like Vitec MPEG Profiler, Canopus Amber or higher end cards like the Zapex? Relative to software encoders?

    6) When playing an IBP MPEG2 stream outside of Premiere or a DVD movie disc, would that use the C-Cube decoder or would it be software-only playback?

    7) Will the RT2000 ever run in Win2000 or NT?

    8) Is there any other board on the horizon (near future) that comes close?

    Any input is appreciated.

    Thanks!

Where have all the RT2000 salespeople gone?

No one has tried After Effects with RT2000 captured I-frame MPEG2 or DV?

cjyo~ looks like everyone must be busy. I don't own the RT2000 nor have I ever used one, but I did want to mention that the RT2000 has it's own support forum at http://forum.matrox.com/cgi-bin/rt2000/Ultimate.cgi . I think it is "read-only" unless you are a registered owner of the board. You also might consider calling or e-mailing Matrox sales. Good luck.
