  • Question for Doc M....Promise SX4000?

Any opinions on this board? Looks like an enhancement to the TX4000???

    Thanks!

The SX4000 works great here. It has four master connects, can do PCI/33 or PCI/66 and can do RAID0 or RAID5. Highly recommended.

Things of note: it's 10.5" long so micro cases may be out. You will also need some PC100 or PC133 RAM for its hardware cache. It can take up to 256 megs & the more the merrier. NT/2K/XP only.

I would assume that it has the same controller chip setup as the TX4000 so that it has no issues handling more than 2 HDDs?

      Thanks for the info!

It has a new controller that gives each drive its own channel so there is no slowdown with >2 HDD's.

It also has hardware XOR in RAID5, which means you get both data redundency and fast writes. Most RAID5's do far slower writes than RAID0.
