  • Dumb question but brains off line

Current control set I've got four at the moment and noticed that I have about six entries each for my monitors so it may explain why my ATI 9700 gets confused which drivers it using. Now which one is the current one, currentcontrolset or 003? Is 003 the last good backup.

Umm... currentcontrolset AND the actual "current" control set will look the same. If it looks like 003, then delete 000, 001, and 002.

Or just go into safe mode and delete every entry in "Device Manager" for the bad monitor. It'll redetect just the proper one when coming back up.

When the next set of drivers come around I'll backup and then edit the registry.

Probably won't be long anymore until then - with rumors claiming Monday as date of the next driver-release.

So when you game on your crt always picks up the right monitor so you're not playing at 60hz???

In Windows XP you will ALWAYS run at 60hz unless you specify otherwise. It's up to the driver manufacturers to provide a method of specifying that. Or the game manufacturers.

                  Or you could run Powerstrip.

Or refreshforce or refreshlock. Run once and forget.

Jeez okay guys no driver changes I've got 85hz and I played games under xp at this.
Next day I start same game 60hz no physical changes.
                      Answer that.
Under ME 120hz manu default for that res every time. I quizzed the ATI guy on this and he say this an XP problem.
                      I don't belive him.

I do. XP has a different refresh interface that a lot of games don't use correctly.

Hate to say this but I've run at 85 hz in the past. Two weeks ago.
The only thing I have done has run the driver update with both monitors atacheded.Whoops

Powerstrip is what I use as well. But then the option to force refresh-rates (I have it set "same as desktop") that is found in newer drivers seems to work fine here as well - only for DX games, though. Hope the next driver set will include the same for OGL.

Then try the programs I mentioned. Works for OpenGL.
