  • New S3 chip Radeon 9700 beater?

    Just read this on www.theinquirer.net:

S3 believes that the Columbia "will perform in the 20K+ range for 3DMark2001SE" and outscore even the Radeon 9700 Pro from ATI, and close to the NV30 from Nvidia.

Delta Chrome retail boards should be available in Q2 starting from $90.

It's very possible that it will be a fast card, if you're comparing to cards that are out right now. But this card won't be out for another 5 months...and that's a totally different market.

Looks interesting but time will tell. We need competitors anyway and not just Ati and Nvidea.

I mean lets face it by the time this card is actually released the Radeon 9700 is going to be old news and is probably going to be around the same price and with better support and drivers

I don't think it should be a problem. Everything is possible...but I have a few doubt about the $90 price...

I'm _sure_ they can make it a 90$ part... they have another 6 months to make a 0.13µm/sub-0.13µm part -when the process should have sufficiently high yields and be cheaper.

By then they'll be against the R350 and/or R400 (who knows, P-II ? )...and probably a GFFX Ultra or sth like that. I suppose even SIS will be releasing a new Xabre model....
