  • Advice on quilting effect with DVDs..

I know the main reason for this is because I am watching DVDs on an 800x600 screen. Actually, its a front-end projector that the guy who owns the house I live in bought. Unfortunately, since he has limited funds, he was unable to go all the way and buy a projector that did 1024x768 or higher. Huge price differance.

Any ways, ideally, we'd like to use software decoding for the DVDs. Better color saturation and the image is noticeablly clearer on 106" diagonal screen. But, like I said, we are limited to 800x600. We can throw the projector into compressed 1024x768 but it drops lines in order to achieve that and the effect is no better if not worse.

Now, if we use a DxR2 or DxR3 we *USUALLY* don't get the quilting effect depending on the movie. Apparantly, the DxR2 and DxR3 both were optimized for different types of encoding methods for DVDs. Plus, its an analog overlay, but, it still has to work within the 800x600 window.

So, I am wondering if there are any tweaks that can be done to any of the software players or my G400 DH to prevent the quilting.

P.S. never had this problem on a comp monitor at 1024x768 and over. And, a TV screen is somewhat smaller and you don't notice the quilting as much.

    TIA!
