    Time to replace old faithfull...

    Well the time has come, I'm throwing a LAN party next weekend and need to beef up my box in the graphics accelerator arena big time. Been running my G400 for around 3 years or so. What I'm looking for.

    Sub $100 price
    Must have good to excellent UT2K3 and Max Payne performance (and also run the next batch of games well)
    Must provide good performance with my dated cpu

    So far this is what has caught my eye:

    Radeon 8500/8500LE/9000/9000 Atlantis
    Geforce 2 GTS 64MB

    Scrp the Geforce right now!!!

    Get one of those Radeon 8500's (maybe even a 9100 if you find one) you listed. If you decide to get the 9000, get the Pro version.

      celeron @ 877... nice OC but still a big bottleneck for gaming... especially UT2K3. when i used to run my R8500 128MB w/my P4 1.8 + RDRAM... still lag... lol

      ur best bet will be R8500/9100

        Agreed - First Choice Radeon 8500/LE (multi-texturing performance), next best thing is Radeon 9000pro, followed by a generic Radeon 9000 These cards offer Complete DirectX 8 support.

              Well the deed is done. I bought not one, but two Radeon 8500 cards! Got them on eBay. I asked a friend to bid on one for me cause I had to go out. Somehow he ended up bidding on two and winning them both..LOL

              No worries though I got the first one which is a retail card with box etc. for $86US shipped, and the second one is OEM for $75US shipped. I think I did pretty good on the prices, and I'll sell one of them when I get it.

              Everyone is telling me its going to be like night and day switching from the G400 to the Radeon 8500...I can't wait!!

                I went the same way (G400Max -> Radeon 8500), everything is fine, but nothing beats the G400's svideo output.
                main system: P4 Northwood 2.0 @ 2.5GHz, Asus P4PE (LAN + Audio onboard), 512MB Infineon PC333 CL2.5, Sapphire/BBA Radeon 9500@9700 128MB (hardmodded), IBM 100GB ATA-100, 17" Belinea (crappy), and some other toys...ADSL (1,5mbit/s down, 256kbit/s up...sweeeeeet!)
