  • Slooow 2D with G550

    Hi folks,

hope this is the right forum for this.

I got a new computer at work and had a G550 installed because of superior IQ and multimon capability (not used yet).
I'm not very familiar with matrox graphic boards anymore (the last I had was a Millenium waay back).

Problem: it appears to be extremly slow in Windows (98SE), e.g. when maximizing IE from taskbar it needs some time to redraw the page, or when minimizing all windows the desktop background builds up very slow (with a nice "wipe2" effect though).
Hardly any difference which resolution or depth is selected (currently 1024x768, 24bit, 75Hz w/ TFT on analog out).

Besides that, it appears to work as it should.

    System:
Asus nForce board / Athlon XP 2000+ / 256MB DDR
    Matrox G550 / drivers: 4.12.01.1220 (?)
    Win 98SE

Anyone got a idea where to start looking for errors?

    Thanks & cheers,
    Mac

Try using a different pixel depth, 32 or 16 bit color.

Ehh... I'm not quite sure about your driver version number... But try getting the newest ones @ http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/dr...atest/home.cfm

And you do have chipset drivers installed for your motherboard, don't you? If not, get them here: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

Hey, thanks for the quick reply and the links!

I don't know which MB drivers currently are installed (didn't set up this machine myself) and can't look 'cause I'm at home now, but I'll check on monday.

        Cheers & nice weekend,
        Mac

ehh... G550 is one of the fastest 2D boards i have ever used. definitely faster than 8500... i.e. web page, scrolling down when loading, doesn't give the "corrupted texts".
