    MSI KT4V-L KT400 DDR400 AGP 8X ATA133 USB 2.0 Audio Lan. AMD around $120

    GA 7VAX: KT400, AGP 8x, DDR400, 6xUSB2.0, ATA133, Lan. AMD
    around $120

    GA 7VAXP:KT400, AGP 8x, DDR400, 6xUSB2.0, ATA133 Raid, 3xIEEE1394

I hope to be eventually using it for NLE.

    Thank you!

ps...if something out there is WAY better value please suggest it

Either that or the EpoX Nforce board.

Well, nay on them all ;-)

VIA sucks for NLE, relative to other options, because its PCI bandwidth sucks. I'll let the Doc tell you more, should be pop in

Otherwise get SiS which is better. Don't know much about nForce2 based boards. I have SiS745 along with half of MURC, adn the 748s should be here soon, which will come with all the extras.

thank you - it seems that most of the Athlon based boards are VIA based from what my local retailers sell.

It seem like the best bang for the buck; as opposed to an Intel based board.

            ASUS P4S8X-Gold (SIS648, 533MHz FSB, Lan, Audio, AGP 8X, Firewire, SATA, Raid133, DDR333)

seems to fit the bill - but it is Intel based.

DO NOT GET THE MSI KT4V. I bought one, sucked really bad, not stable. Took it back and traded it for an Asus A7V8X. I love this board. But still think wish I could have found one without the VIA chipset.

I can't remember how many times Dogbert said Nforce2, and Thop/Pace said 745 Ultra and K6-III said 8RDA+, perhaps 3 times a week? But I'll say don't get ECS K7S5A and equivilant.

hehe, indeed. Although I didn't mention the 745 Ultra this time

Anyway, there's plenty of motherboard threads:

Hey, the SIS735 based K7S5A works fine.

I wouldn't recommend it though unless you needed SDRAM (not DDR) support. Get a SIS745 board instead in that case.

Nvidia nforce2 is another possible option (if your budget stretches that far, mine doesn't)

Don't get VIA though. SiS are just as fast now, and much more stable.

Can you please recommend a good cheap P4 board with reasonable overclocking?

Considering MSI 645 Ultra... will make purchase in 2 days time.
